In case you needed more reasons to come and live or visit this lovely village, here is a short video to help you with your decision!
Bear River is home to filmmaker Tim Wilson and this film is an interview with Tim and his artist wife Simone about why they love Bear River.

Hello Flora and Larry,
What a treat to see these two beautiful films from Tim. We will be in Bear River in May/June staying in our little house along Middlesex Road. We hope, with Canadian Immigration’s blessing, to make it our permanent home within the next year or so. I have been following the progress of both of you with great interest and I almost feel I know you! Certainly enough to give you a cheery wave if I see you during our visit.

Hi Flora,
What beautiful films. The funny thing is that
Bear River is so much like Pugwash, except that it’s more River than ocean, but many of those clips reminded me so much of other places in Nova Scotia. The whole province is so beautiful.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hello Rob!
Where is your house on Middlesex? Is it the one in the woods with the wagon wheels outside or is it the house with the swimming pool.? Perhaps it is neither of those, but I ask as they were for sale in the last several years.
Good luck with your immigration process and I’m glad that you enjoy reading the blog.
Tim and Simone are real treasures in this village and I love all of Tim’s films. It’s very special to watch a ‘world class’ filmmaker combine his expertise of filmmaking with his love for this community.
The love part is so difficult to describe or to even understand, but it is a feeling about Bear River that people either have or don’t. Not a week goes by that I don’t hear someone say “I feel so lucky/happy/at peace to live here”.
You’ll have to introduce yourselves to us when you are here!

Barbara,
Nova Scotia is Canada’a best kept secret! We both know that.
Each community here definitely has it’s own vibe that is above and beyond the physical beauty.
Bear River isn’t everyone’s idea of paradise…it needs some polishing and an injection of infrastructure cash. But for those who grew up here or who were drawn here by its indescribable energy, it is the sweetest place on earth. It is like coming home.
For me the culture of collaboration and cooperation are huge draws. I never realised that I belonged in a little village, but there is a real comfort in recognising people at events and always continuing the conversation with people. It means that relationships are always deepening.
Not everyone here feels the way I do and I can only speak from my own point of view. I feel like I am part of a large extended family….a happy one. At the same time, I get to do my own thing and that is gold!
Thanks for your comment Barbara! I look forward to visiting Pugwash some day!

Thanks for that! Simone and Tim are the reason I found Bear River. I miss them. And every time I read your blog, I start figuring out ways to be down there with the rest of you.
And it was great to see Barney again, the little dog on Simone’s lap. Because he’s no longer with us .. I wonder if your video clip was his last public appearance.
On a lighter side, I laughed when Tim said the word “rootedness” and then the video cut to the rooster. I heard it as “roosterness”. Especially funny since Tim, Simone and I have another story in common about “roosterness”.
Thanks for sharing.
