Our Bear River Adventure

My Kingdom for an Electrician

July 10, 2009 · 12 Comments

My first trailer full of boxes.

My first trailer full of boxes that I packed myself.

This is going to be a post where I cheat big time and make the post short and sweet. It’s past midnight and it’s been another full day of  getting ready to move in FOUR DAYS. The guests arrive in SEVEN DAYS. Will we make it??

At the house, the work continues and it will be a race to the finish, for sure.

The electrician hasn’t been returning our calls and the stove won’t work without him and neither will the hot water. The plumber was there today and now all the taps work and toilets flush………that is except for the kitchen taps. That’s because they aren’t installed yet. Larry drove an hour and a half up the valley today to buy them and the kitchen sink. But the kitchen sink box had a hole in it and a metal piece that secures the sink to the counter is gone.

It’s all rather hairy, but in the scheme of things I suppose it’s really small potatoes.

Here are some photos that I took today to show you the chaos that we are still in.

I have to go to bed now so that I can visualize the electrician coming to save the day!

My mother-in-law recommended your blog to me. It’s so nice to read about other people’s adventures. We moved to Lunenburg last October and we are also currently preparing for guests. Luckily we seem to be a little more ‘organized’ than you. I hope everything comes together for you and that you have a wonderful time with your guests when they arrive.

    Woo Hoo.

    Hi Flora,

You guys always were so good at this stuff. We’re heading out for the first two weeks of August. There is so much work to do at our place after two years, I don’t know whether we’ll get to yours. But we will talk. I hope you can come up, but completely understand if you can’t. The house is amazing!

    Love,

    Barbara

    Hi Flora,

I’m sure your guests will understand some turmoil. Remember; they’re coming to see you and Larry, not a tidy home. Just enjoy your company and your house. Never do today what you can put off ’til tomorrow!

By the way, the house is magnificent!

    Love,
    Sandy

Flora and Larry, your house looks splendid after so much very hard work. I promise you that we never did move into a house that was finished but I will not bore you with stories of windows patched up with brown paper. With luck, I hope to be in Bear River in mid-September and look forward to meeting you then. I promise not to hold up your good work .Good luck with your move. Audrey.

You must be in overdrive, Flora, packing, moving and still finding the energy to write a post for your blog! Cheating? I don’t think so. Is there a big S on the front of your t-shirt?

    For you, Flora!

Audrey, I would love to write about the amazing work that Peter has done on our house…and maybe I will. He’s very modest though and may not take kindly to it! We would have been totally lost without him and his work in the house is outstanding!
Can’t wait to meet you in September!

    Hi Sandy!
Turmoil is one thing, cold showers are another!! Bathroom doors are a wonderful invention too!! For sure we’ll have all that working when you arrive! Can’t wait to see you both again!
