Thank you so much for reading my blog. I know that some of you who are considering visiting or moving to Bear River will enjoy seeing this series of photos I’ve taken over the past several years. Hopefully this will give you an idea of the weather changes here over a 12 month period.
Happy New Year and may we all experience Peace and Love and Good Health in 2014.

Patti, this is an EXCELLENT question and I’m working on my answer. 😉
Please stay tuned!
Hi Flora
Feel like I know you
even though we have yet to meet 🙂
I am an artist in Calgary and was at a show at ARTPOINT, almost a year ago and met one of your neices…sorry I cannot remember her name at this point 😦
she told me about you and when I got home that night I looked up your blog etc and have been happily following it since.
a bit about me …then I have a question for you…
We bought a wonderful home on the Digby Neck 9 years ago
LOVE IT
bought it on the internet without even seeing it in person…
divine intervention 🙂
5 years ago we sold our house in calgary and moved lock stock and barrell to NS
…both our parents health was declining and I really missed my kids and grandkids( who did not get the memo that they were to move out there)
so we moved back to calgary in 2009 and now “visit” our house once or twice a year.
I REALLY struggle with choosing to move back to NS
as I feel( as I did before)that I am “abandoning” my kids and grandkids (even though my son and his family have since moved to BC)
my daughter and her family are still here .
But my heart is torn
as I have wanted to live by the ocean for as long as I can remember…
My question is:
how did you get “to the place” where you could move away from family ?
We love our place in NS and want to settle there and grow vegetables and work on our barn and build a cottage on some land we bought near our house.
The “visiting” is not the same as putting down roots.
Thank you for listening 🙂
I have tried to write you this email many times and have delelted it as I feel like I am bothering you with my query…
I just am so inspired by what you and Larry have done and I am hoping you will have some insight that will help.
warm wishes
patti
Thanks for the beautiful photos Flora. Really enjoyed them. We live in such a beautiful place!
You are welcome Jocelyn, I’m glad to hear that! We are surrounded by beauty, that’s for sure!
Where r those people swimming at???? I am from B.R. and have not seen that spot efore
Lisa, that spot is “Fred’s(swimming) Hole” (which is not the greatest name for a spot that I think feels absolutely sacred!) There is always brook water flowing through it. It’s on River Road, past the hydro building. It is a favorite swimming spot here. I have more pictures of it here: https://floramary.wordpress.com/2009/08/22/five-years-and-11-minutes-to-the-swimming-hole/
Hi Flora,
Thank you SO much for taking the time to put these wonderful pictures together of Bear River-fantastic place!
It makes my heart ache to have a home there and do my woodworking in such a beautiful area.
I’ve been trying to get my home sold for a few years now and maybe God will see to it that it will sell in this coming new year.
I’ve retired from the Fire Dept. and now after a 40 year absence because too busy working-am now able to pursue my love of hand crafting Mission-style furniture. One reason why I hope to sell my house is to have one with a shop or garage,as the only place I have to do my woodworking is on my front porch-I put plastic around it in Winter and have a heater to stay warm, but I dream of a real shop someday.
Ive lived in Carbondale 37 years now and now feel it”s time for a new adventure at 64! Carbondale is between Glenwood Springs (the hot springs pool) and Aspen (ski country!)
I was raised on a small farm near Denver and love growing things and would love to see what I could grow there!
I’ll attach a few photos.
Thanks again for the photos and I hope you and yours enjoy a happy and healthful 2014!
God Bless!

Larry, you are so welcome. I was glad (for my sake too) to put together a collection of images that are in month order if only because it’s a reminder that in 3 short months, the new growth will be pushing up through the earth.
Oh Flora, your lil’ magical village is going to be inundated with C.F.A.’s when they see these images !
Sybil, do you think so? 😉 I hope a few will think that because there’s lots of room here for sure.
